Accredited Investor and Wealth Percentile Calculator (US)

Do you meet the SEC's accredited-investor criteria, and where does that put you on the US wealth distribution? Enter your net worth excluding your home and your income, and this tool checks the published criteria and places your net worth on the national distribution using Federal Reserve data. It is not advice about private investments. Nothing you enter is stored.

SEC accredited-investor criteria are the Commission's published thresholds. The percentile uses the U.S. Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, the same data as the site's US net-worth calculators.

How it works

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission sets criteria for who may invest in certain private offerings. The financial routes are a net worth over one million dollars excluding your primary residence, or income over two hundred thousand dollars individually, or three hundred thousand dollars jointly, in each of the last two years. This tool checks those figures and, separately, shows where your net worth falls on the US distribution using the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, the same dataset behind the site's US net-worth calculators.

A worked example

Someone with $1,200,000 of net worth excluding their home, $150,000 of individual income and $250,000 of joint income meets the criteria on net worth alone, even though neither income figure clears its threshold. On the Federal Reserve distribution, $1,200,000 of net worth sits high on the national scale, in the upper reaches of the top quintile. Meeting the criteria and being wealthy by the national distribution are related but not identical questions, and the tool answers both.

What this does not mean

These are the SEC's published criteria, not advice. Qualifying to invest in private offerings says nothing about whether any particular private investment is a good idea, and those investments carry real risks and are often illiquid. There are also other routes to accreditation, including certain professional certifications and tests for entities, which this simple check does not cover. Treat the result as a fact about a threshold, not a recommendation.

Frequently asked questions

What are the SEC's financial criteria?

The published financial routes are a net worth over one million dollars excluding your primary residence, or income over two hundred thousand dollars individually or three hundred thousand jointly in each of the last two years. This tool checks those figures against what you enter.

Does qualifying mean I should invest in private deals?

No. The criteria only govern who may participate. They say nothing about whether any specific private investment is sound, and such investments are often risky and illiquid. This is not investment advice.

Where does the percentile come from?

From the U.S. Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances, the same data as the site's US net-worth calculators. It places your net worth on the national distribution as a rough position, not an exact rank.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.
