At all times, as long as Colleges exist, their customs and traditions have been an integral part of studying at the university, as mandatory as attending lectures, writing term papers, or passing exams.
It is well known that student life cannot be called carefree and easy. Maybe because students strive to at least somehow diversify their everyday lives and distract themselves from their studies, and they have their interesting traditions.
One of them is the initiation of freshmen into students.
During the first year, most students require some help with academic writing, as a student, I took advantage of various online services, where qualified writers could write my paper for me and give me feedback.
Forever and Always
This tradition is known in every university. Back in the Middle Ages, young people who had just entered the University of Paris had to go through a series of tough tests, proving their strength of spirit.
Those who withstood all the tests with dignity became members of the secret union of students, who rebuffed the actions of the administration.
But if you believe the story, the initiation ritual arose much earlier and is some kind of analog of the initiation rite, known in ancient times.
During his teens were subjected to a series of tests to prove to society that they have the right to have the status of a full-fledged man.
Sometimes the initiation ritual is associated with pre-revolutionary times. It was conducted by sophomore students who passed the baton to newcomers.
Today, the dedication to students resembles a cheerful holiday – sometimes official, solemn, sometimes cheerful, with inventions and non-malicious mockery of newly minted students. But always memorable for a lifetime.
They are preparing for it for a long time and thoroughly, and all this is to allow the “green” students to feel the importance of such an event — joining the student fraternity.
What Do the Organizers of Such an Event Offer?
Solemn Initiation
This is the first official participation of first-year students in the public life of the educational institution. In most universities, such a ritual is associated with the peculiarities of the future profession and takes place on stage.
Sometimes, after the ceremonial part, the university management allows first-year students to attend an event for free: a concert, a disco in a nightclub, or a bowling alley. Young people can have fun all night!
But mostly I remember the informal initiation into students, which is usually initiated by undergraduates.
Informal Initiation
So students of chemistry or biology are offered to try different liquids and tastes to determine which drink was drunk. The experiment is difficult, because you have to decide with your eyes closed, and the most unexpected liquids are offered for testing: water, vodka, lemon juice, tea, and more.
To mislead first-year students, they make up the most “confusing” mixtures. The fun increases if you offer as a “snack” any living creatures, for example, spiders or bugs.
And at the end of the ceremony, a student who has passed all the tests with dignity is hung around his neck as a reward with a dried chicken foot.
For some time it has been common to beat young mathematicians on the head with a weighty collection of problems.
This is a harmless activity that does not cause any harm to health. Well, senior students want all mathematical terms, formulas, and theorems to be fixed in a beginner’s head for a long time on the threshold of the land of Knowledge!
Newly minted student journalists are fed a “dessert”, which is pieces of newspapers dipped in “ink”. The role of “ink” is usually played by a jam from blueberries or currants, so it’s even nice to eat such a “cake”.
The dedication ends with a “marking” when a first-year student is stamped with the name of the university or faculty in different places.
But at the Faculty of Law, a “marriage” is concluded between a new student and Mrs. Jurisprudence.
From the point of view of the law, this event is not supported by anything, but sometimes it becomes the beginning of a new romantic relationship.
In general, each university and each faculty has its traditions. Future oil workers, for example, should dip their finger in the oil and lick it (which is not always pleasant, but what can you do — tradition).
First-year food scientists are invited to cook pasta for dinner and eat them at a specific time. Everything that is not eaten on time is put together with a plate on the head of the unfortunate first-year student who “failed” the test.
There are other scenarios, but the main thing is that everything that happens should be fun, but completely harmless and voluntary for “green” students.
Having a Good Memory Is Very Important for Students
How does the mechanism of memory function in the human brain, how does physical activity affect the human brain and why is it important to train to improve memory?
Memory problems that occur with age worry many.
We suggest you learn how to improve it by doing sports. How does our memory work? Memory is a person’s ability to memorize, accumulate, and extract information obtained from external sources through the senses.
In a physiological sense, it is formed by the following areas of the brain: cortex; limbic system; cerebellum; temporal lobes. Neurovision Attention!
Long-term memorization of information occurs in the hippocampus, where neurons and neurotransmitters are located, through which communication between nerve cells is carried out.
The degree of memorization of information in both children and adults depends on the attention and ability to concentrate on specific information.
Ways to improve memory For a long time it was believed that memory training and intellectual loads help to increase the ability to remember. For these purposes, it was recommended to devote time to solving puzzles and logic games in old age.
However, relatively recently, studies have been conducted that have proven the low effectiveness of this method of memory recovery.
This forced experts to return to the question of whether it is possible to improve memory by doing sports, and what specific exercises affect the hippocampus.
Is it possible to improve memory with the help of sports? Scientists have found that physical activity activates the brain and increases the number of active neurons.
Moreover, a group of scientists from several major universities in the UK received approximately the same results when conducting experiments with both students and elderly people.
According to their version, physical activity increases the level of the BDNF protein responsible for stimulating neurons.
As a result, the hippocampus increases, the loss of which volume due to age-related changes is one of the causes of memory deterioration.
Physical training also helps to improve blood circulation in the body, including blood supply to the brain. This is another reason for improving memory even at a fairly advanced age.
What types of training improve memory? To improve memory, it is necessary to choose the right types of physical activity and attend classes regularly.
Aerobic exercise is necessary to activate the production of BDNF protein, which promotes the formation of new neurons.
Conclusion
These are the types of exercises during which the human body is actively enriched with oxygen and all its systems are strengthened.
