What you will find below is an S&P/TSX – Toronto Stock Exchange Return Calculator – this calculator will allow you to enter the start month and year, and end month and year of the time period to calculate, and the calculator will provide your returns (not including dividends) for those periods.

The Toronto Stock Exchange, otherwise known as the S&P/TSX, is the primary stock exchange in Canada, and also happens to be the 9th largest exchange in the world.

How this calculator works:  Enter the start month and year, and the end month and year, and this calculator will calculate the percentage difference in change for the S&P/TSX Composite Index.  The stock return calculator Canada is specifically for the Toronto Exchange. Some interesting facts to note about the Toronto Stock Exchange (S&P/TSX)

  • The Toronto Stock Exchange dates back to October 25, 1861 when twenty-four brokers met at the Masonic Hall to create the TSE.
  • By 1968 the TSE had 18 listings.
  • In 1929, when the markets crashed, the index lost 8%, and the following day the index loss a further 20%
  • By 1936 the Toronto Stock Exchange grew to become the third-largest in North America
  • In April 1997 Toronto closed their trading floor
  • In 2000 the TSE became a for-profit company
  • In February 2011 the London Stock Exchange announced they were going to buy/merge with the TSE, however, a few months later in June 2011, a rival bid from the Maple Group, comprised of the leading banks and financial institutions in Canada challenged and bested the LSE’s bid.
