The Myers-Briggs personality test has been deployed in professional and nonprofessional settings and remains one of the most popular personality testing techniques today. This test draws inspiration from Carl Jung’s psychology types theory and forms the basis for employee assessments in the workplace. In this guest post, we review the Myers-Briggs personality test, which now works.

What is MBTI?

Also called the MBTI, the Myers Briggs assessment test was developed and published in 1962 by a mother and daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Cook Briggs. Both researchers had spent years studying Carl Jung’s theory of psychology and succeeded in making a lasting contribution to the field of study.

Their work spanned many years and succeeded in developing a standard test to accurately evaluate and identify human personalities regardless of culture, region, religion, or any social factor. Since its publication, it has been widely used and remains one of the most popular personality tests in the world.

Who Uses MBTI?

MBTI is used by coaches, consultants, organizations, and professionals. The purpose of subjecting participants to the test is to help them create self-awareness. It helps you understand why you act the way you do in certain situations. The information gleaned from MBTI assessments can improve interpersonal skills, improve relationships, manage conflict and make the right career choices.

The behavioral researcher also uses it to examine human personality and other related attributes. Even clinical psychologists are not left out, as they use them to assess patients with mental disorders and other mental health issues.

However, the greatest use for MBTI assessments has been in corporate organizations where human resources managers use it to assign staff to specific roles and functions.

Key Uses

Behavioral experts believe that all human actions and inactions are not only tied to external factors but behavioral traits as well. They also believe that personality is a major influencer of human behavior, so if people understand their personalities better, they will make better decisions, especially in high-pressure situations. You can test your personality test directly online at https://iq-tests.org/personality-tests/

MBTI can help individuals and organizations:

  • Communicate better
  • Make better decisions
  • Handle conflict
  • Manage human resources more effectively
  • Switch careers when necessary

And more.

More Than Just Questionnaires

Many critics of the MBTI argue that it is just a questionnaire, but it is more than that. Although it evaluates personalities using questions, it seeks to achieve the following.

  • It provides a common language and metric for understanding human behavioral traits
  • It seeks to provide an easy method to understand the peculiar differences between personalities
  • It inspires inter-relationship dynamics among people and steps to take to improve social cohesion
  • It takes a positive view of all personalities

Overall, the MBTI assessments are for self-growth and development.

How Does The Test Work?

This test works by measuring the candidate’s personality using the following indicators:

  • Extroversion – Introversion
  • Sensing – Intuition
  • Thinking – Feeling
  • Judging Perceiving

Extroversion – Introversion

This indicator measures our disposition towards human and social interaction. People with extroverted personalities are out-tuning and prefer to socialize, while introverts are inward tuning and enjoy being alone or keeping a small circle of friends.

Sensing –  Intuition

Under this category, the rest seeks to uncover the mode and manner people gather information and make perceived judgments about the world. People who prefer sensing focus on getting tangible information before making decisions. They prefer to focus on facts rather than rely on sentiments. In comparison, those who follow their information prefer to focus on the patterns that brought about a situation rather than the facts.

Thinking – Feeling

The MBTI test also makes a distinction between thinking and feeling. People who are thinkers rely on logic and data to make decisions and are far more practical when making judgment calls. They will rather rely on logic and data than their emotions. Feeling people, on the other hand, will base their decisions on how they feel about a subject matter and are heavily influenced by the emotions of others as well.

Judging – Perceiving

This indicator focuses on human interaction. Those who lead by judging prefer to be guided by certain structures and rules. They love a rigid and disciplined life, while Perceiving persons are more spontaneous and flexible when making decisions because they live for the moment

The test is a series of questions that you must answer. After taking the test, an individual report about you will be generated to show your personality type. A guide will also be included providing you with a framework for how to make the best use of your skills to make better decisions. Of all the 16 MBTI personality types expressed in 4-letter codes, one of them will be your personality.

The Myers-Briggs personality test has proven to be an effective tool for understanding human behavioral traits. By answering a few questions, people can learn more about themselves and improve the quality of their lives and relationships.
