You don’t have to be a big brand business to make money on Instagram.

How to Make Money on Instagram

We’ll walk you through the steps to get started and offer some great ideas for monetizing your Instagram account.

Creating Your Instagram Account

You can have up to three Instagram accounts on one phone number, so if you already have a personal account and don’t want to use it for making money, you can simply create a new account.

Before you do that, you’ll want to answer one simple question: what do you want to sell?

The offers you will be promoting should be in line with the category or niche your account showcases.

If you want to sell dog training programs, don’t create an account that showcases makeup tutorials and vice versa.

Since you’ll be posting pictures, it helps to pick a niche that has some visual appeal. Instagram pros categorize monetized accounts as either a theme or an influencer account.

Influencers brand their name and personality. They may be artists, entrepreneurs, or stylists. These accounts can be faceless.

A coffee brand, travel, or motivational quotes can all be successful without a personality at the helm.

The account should be targeted to a specific group. If you’re selling dog training programs, you want to create a site around a breed of dog.

If you want to sell hobby tools, narrow it down to a specific interest, such as woodworking or painting.

 If you have created an account, it’s time to set it up as a business account.

Setting Up an Instagram Business Account

  • Log in to Instagram
  • At the top right-hand corner of your profile, tap Main Menu
  • Tap: Settings
  • Select the appropriate account
  • Tap: Switch to Professional Account
  • Select: Business
  • Enter the contact information for your business (home address is fine)
  • Tap: Done

Gaining Followers

You’ll increase followers on Instagram when you post relevant, helpful content with a few appropriate hashtags.

The technique where you follow other people and they reciprocate by following you back isn’t as effective as it used to be. But using Instagram growth service can definitely help increase the number of your followers. Many people warn against buying followers. I politely disagree.

When your site is new, many people don’t want to follow accounts with only a handful of followers for the same reason you buy a widget on Amazon with thousands of reviews instead of buying the same widget with ten reviews.

It’s called Social Proof. Choosing to buy Instagram followers legitimizes your profile, helping to grow the account quickly.

Ways to Make Money on Instagram

Selling Shoutouts

In order to sell shoutouts, you’ll need at least fifteen thousand followers to earn about ten dollars.

Posting consistently means you’ll be getting more engagement, which is a key factor in determining the value of your account.

There are several ways to structure your pricing for shoutouts.

12 hour or 24 hours. Revenue increases with longer posting times. About the only way smaller accounts earn is with a 24-hour post.

Post, Story, or Story + Swipe Up Price range from $20.00 to $150.00 for a twelve-hour post. Add another $10.00 to include a link in the Profile.

Deals can be worked out using direct messaging, or you can set up an account at a site that acts as a broker for advertising on Instagram accounts.

As you increase your followers on Instagram, larger brands will start to take notice and offer you a contract to promote their products on a regular basis.

Promote Affiliate Programs and Products

Even if you don’t have your own business, you can make money as an affiliate. You promote affiliate offers by using special links supplied by the vendor.

When writing up the product in your post, add, “Check the link in profile.” When someone buys an offer through your affiliate link, you get a commission.

Most people don’t promote affiliate offers on Instagram because Instagram doesn’t allow you to link directly to these offers.

That little snag and with only one link available in the Profile, we need to think outside the box. There are two easy methods for doing this.

Free Method: Redirect Links

  • Create an account at LinkTr.ee.
  • Set up your user profile. The photo you use should be the same as the photo you use on your Instagram profile.
  • Create new affiliate links in Linker. ee.
  • Place the original Linker. ee account link in your Instagram profile.

The user will be redirected to your Linker. ee profile and will find links to all of your offers there.

Free Method: Free Website

Create a dedicated Instagram page on Blogger.com or Google Sites. If you’re comfortable blogging, set up a dedicated page for all the offers you have created.

Link to this page from your Instagram Profile. As you create new offers, add this block to the top of the page so your followers will see these first.

Hint: Try to find offers that have a recurring commission. You only have to sell to them once in order to get multiple commissions.

Conclusion

While these ideas sound very basic, they can be lucrative. Some people earn five figures per month with Instagram and a basic website. The opportunities are still there and there’s plenty of room for everyone.
